What does your clothing color say about you?

As you stare at the clothes in your closet, morning mug in hand, you may want to think beyond the weather and consider other elements of your upcoming day. What will you do? Who will you meet? Perhaps most important, what's your mood?

Different clothing colors exude different feelings and meanings, and colors can affect and reflect your mood. That means the clothing colors you select are important not only to communicate your color personality but also in terms of your emotional health and the moods of those around you.

Find out the meaning behind popular clothing colors to be sure you're sending the right message.

Red:

Do you want to stand out from the crowd and grab someone's attention? Are you feeling daring, enthusiastic, or passionate? Do you want to increase your confidence? Then the color red will suit you perfectly. On the other hand, if you are going to a meeting and you are not ready for it, wearing red might bring some unwanted attention towards you.

Pink:

Pink is the color of love, hope, and calmness, and gives off signs of affection and a sense that everything will be fine. It is often recognized as a feminine color, though that doesn't (and shouldn't) stop men from wearing it. Pink is the perfect color to wear whenever you want to display these feelings.

Blue:

Wear blue whenever you want to represent peacefulness and fidelity. Also keep in mind that people are more likely to remember something in a blue background, so you can wear a blue shirt to display a message you want others to remember.

Green:

Want to represent wealth or show ambition, perhaps you want to show that you are attempting to grow as a person? If you can connect to any of these, wearing green will suit you well.

Yellow:

Wear yellow whenever you want to brighten and have a positive influence in others. While wearing yellow will put you in the spotlight as it is an attention-grabber, it can also make you happy if you are feeling down.

Grey:

While the adjectives above might not seem positive, grey is elegant, which is part of the reason why a lot of suits are grey. Wear grey when you want to appear elegant, when you want to appear neutral, or if you're feeling 'meh.' Too much grey, however, might indicate a lack of creativity.

Black:

Wearing black has different impacts on people. Some will connect it to depression and sadness, while others will connect it to elegance. Black shirts will make you look slimmer, though wearing black clothes on a very hot day would not be a good idea since black absorbs more heat than other colors, thus making you feel even hotter.

White:

Wear white whenever you are having or want to have a fresh beginning or when you want to give a sense of purity. Unlike the color black, it is encouraged to wear white shirts when it's very hot because white shirts reflect heat better than darker colors.

Purple:

The color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also feminine and romantic. However, because it is rare in nature, purple can appear artificial.

Brown:

Solid, reliable brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature. Light brown implies genuineness while dark brown is similar to wood or leather. Brown can also be sad and wistful. Men are more apt to say brown is one of their favorite colors.
