Top 5 winter trends for 2018

We love winter in this region – it’s when we get to be outdoors 24/7, with lots of cool events popping up around us. Plus, we get to layer up in style! So what are the key winter trends this season? What cold-weather essentials should you have in your wardrobe?

1. Faux fur gives us the warm and fuzzies!

Ladies and girls, this one’s for you. Faux fur is a massive trend right now and this season is all about updating the classic with some truly wearable styles. Think a fur-collared waterfall or faux leather jacket, and if you want to take it up several notches, don a regal faux fur cape. Needless to say, it is the equally luxurious but far more ethical alternative to fur.

2. Quilted jackets rule men’s fashion

That’s right. You can start off with a sleeveless quilted jacket over a full-sleeved shirt as we transition into winter and move on to a heavier full-sleeved version as it gets colder. Top colours for quilted jackets this season are navy and burgundy, though black is always popular. But why should boys have all the fun? This is a look women can easily rock too, so check out these styles with more feminine quilting (psst…it comes in blush too). And we love these choices for young gentlemen too!

3. Winter boot trends for 2018 just dropped

We can keep talking for days about our favourite boots but let’s just say, this season we’re crushing on kitten heels, suede finishes and burgundy boots for women. For men, the classic boot still rules. Girls get the best of both worlds – they get to pick from the girliest and the edgiest styles, while boys’ looks are a whole lot sportier.

4. Chunky knits are key essentials this season

It goes without saying that sweaters and cardigans will rule for the next few months, but we love the oversize ones that are popping up this season for women. Cable knits are always popular, but you could also try polka dots, pearls or textured shapes. Pair them with skinnies and boots and you’re good to go. You can twin with your man or with your little ones – there are hundreds of cool styles for them.

5. Beanies, scarves and gloves cap it all

Details matter, especially when it’s windy outside and your hands and ears are ice-cold (brrr). You’ll be wearing these a lot this winter, so make sure you have at least two pairs of gloves, scarves and caps, one that goes with your lighter outfits, and one that works with darker shades.  If you want a trendier alternative to the woolly winter cap, try a beret – wear it tilted at an angle!

That’s it – our roundup of all that’s cool and trending this winter. We hope you’ll have fun wearing them to all your dos this year!
