5 stylish active wear trends for fitness freaks

February is all about digging deeper within yourself and making sure you continue to ace those fitness resolutions you made back in January. Part of finding motivation to keep up your gym routine is the opportunity to flaunt some cute new gym gear. Prints are in for women, while muscle tees always have the men looking cool as they lift weights.

1. Love that mesh

These breathable fabrics have been sportswear and athleisure staples for a while now, but they’re here in 2019 with updated styles. When selecting mesh, the important thing is to ensure that the mesh tops are not too fitted – cropped or hoodie versions are perfect. Gym pants with mesh inserts are a more lowkey way to work the look.

2. Play that tape

You can see taping on jeans, skirts, tops, pretty much everything, and your gym gear is no exception. Side taping on jog pants and sweatshirts, or parallel taping on crop tops and sports bras take us right back to the nineties – anyone remember those music videos from back then? Just add some tracks from the decade to your playlist and get moving with these styles for women and men.

3. Say it with inspirational slogans

Self-expression is big everywhere, whether on Instagram posts, décor moodboards or even your morning coffee mug. Every time you think you’ve hit a plateau with regard to your fitness (those last kilos proving stubborn?) pull out that inspirational tee or vest and remind yourself of exactly why you’re doing this. Think of it a bit like journaling, only with your style as your notepad.

4. Keep it simple in gym co-ords

Co-ords, or matching sets of tops and bottoms, are a big trend in fashion now. Take the trend into the gym with a matching sports bra and leggings. Printed options are particularly cool. The best thing about a co-ord set is that it allows you stay organised when you’re packing for the gym – no more rushing about trying to find tops and bottoms that go together.

5. Sports bras are here to stay

When gym routines get pretty intense, you need the best support. Sports bras combine style and function, with these latest choices meant to be worn on their own or layered under a tee if you prefer. Sports bras come in high to medium support, with removable cups. How do you know what level of support you need? High intensity activities like running require firm support but stick to medium support for yoga, weights or other medium intensity activities.
